What is Project Mentor?
Project Mentor is a school based mentoring program that matches men and women in the community with youth in the LVISD schools. Once matched these mentors and students meet and have lunch together for 30 minutes once a week. At its most basic level mentoring helps because it guarantees a young person that there is someone who cares about them. A child is not alone in dealing with day-to-day challenges.
Project Mentor connects community members with Lago Vista ISD students to foster meaningful relationships that promote positive youth development so that students can successfully navigate school and life.
Our Mentors meet with their student once a week for 30 minutes during their lunch time. During this time, our mentors speak with them about life, troubles, successes, or whatever is on their mind. Sometimes they would like advice, sometimes they need a listening ear, and sometimes they just need some good old fashioned attention. Our mentors provide them with a relationship that shows care, compassion, healthy boundaries and guidelines. This little bit of time with our mentees goes a very long way.
BE SOMEONE THAT MATTERS TO SOMEONE THAT MATTERS!
